Parents take a break! Reimen Gardens in Ames, IA

Last Saturday, my amazing wife, Meli, and I took our first REAL vacation day away from parenting for our 5th wedding Anniversary!

My sister happily took the kids for an awesome kids day with their Aunt and Uncle while we spent the day in Ames, IA.

After dropping the kids off around 11 AM with my sister, we headed out.

The drive to Ames took a little more than an hour, but it was totally worth it!

First things first!

When we reached Ames, we needed something to eat.  After hitting Duff Ave, we discovered a restaurant that we’ve never had before, but all the internet talk that we’ve heard over the years told us that we HAD to try it!

Yep, we had finally found a Chick-Fil-A.  After taking our order from the very cheerful, Ryan, we were amazed that it was ready and sitting on a tray in front of us before we even finished paying!

We both settled on the Spicy Chicken Deluxe Meal and “Wow” was it good!  The waffle fries were amazing as well!

Internet…  You did not disappoint with THAT recommendation!

So with bellies full, it was time to head over to our main destination!

Reimen Gardens

Reimen Gardens is beautiful!

After spending a few hours walking through the gardens, we headed over to the Mall on Grand Ave to do some window shopping and to waste a little more time before our reservation at…

Fuji Steakhouse

Fuji Steakhouse (Ames) was probably the most “Looked Forward” to part of our day for Meli!  She was so excited to go to their Hibachi Grill and had been commenting on it all week!

I’ll admit, it was pretty fun watching the “Grillmaster” put on a great show all while cooking.  The food was so good!  We went all out getting Chicken, Steak, and Shrimp!  Every bite was super tasty!

After dinner, we took a quick drive down Duff Ave. to…

Coldstone Creamery

I got myself the Strawberry Blonde (Ice Cream) and Added Banana to the mix.  It was the PERFECT finish to a hat day!  My wife got herself Chocolate Devotion (Ice Cream) and she loved it as well.

After Ice Cream it was time to head home, but not before stopping at a few PokeStops in Ames to catch some Pokemon via Pokemon GO!

All in all, our day away from Parenting was a very fun day.

Every parent can use a time out from the kids.  It’s important to take some time to clear your mind and just mellow out without all the distractions that kids can bring.

I wouldn’t give up my children for anything in the world, but it’s very nice to get some time to ourselves!

When was the last time you took a vacation from parenting?  Let us know in the comments below!

It sounds like you had an amazing day away from parenting. We have one day a month where we have a date but do Alphabet Dating to shake it up a bit and it really works. We’ve been doing it for 6 months now and its brought “us” back which is such a great feeling when trying to adapt to parenting!
Thank you for sharing this with us at #TriumphantTales. I hope to see you back next week.
